Long time client of ours, Gravity Design Associates, are an independent Architectural Design Consultancy, nestled in the Heart of London,  a mere 10 minutes away from the famous Tower Bridge.

Gravity’s design ethos centers around the idea that design schemes should compliment and be sympathetic to existing architecture or surroundings, as well as the practical knowledge of dealing with a scheme from concept through to completion.

Featured in her mood board for a lateral conversion project she recently worked are our Tectonic Chevron boards with a Chocolate Latte finish.

We caught up with Lucinda to talk her inspiration, challenges, and as always, wooden floors.

What inspired this mood board and what room or setting would you envision using it in?

LB: This project was a lateral conversion.  We took inspiration from the original features of the property and built upon the classic foundation using contemporary and bold materials.  This enriched the large triple aspect space this property is fortunate to have.

What colours/colour palletes do you predict to be big this year?

LB: I, and a lot of my clients prefer to use classic timeless colour palletes and avoid trends but I would have to say that I see warmer, browner tones making their way back but being used with more contemporary greys to keep them fresh and bright.

Where do you draw inspiration?

LB:I am inspired by beautiful architecture, landscape, culture, fashion and interiors.   I get this through travel, new forms of social media, the sharing of peoples experience and photographs on Instagram which also gives you an essence of their emotional responses.

What do you like about working with wooden floors?

LB: They’re versatile.  I love how classic and contemporary wooden floors can be.  They complement an environment whatever the style.

What do you like about working with Chaunceys?

LB: The quality of both the board and the finishes available.

What do you look for in a supplier?

LB: Similarly to above, the finish and quality is the upmost importance to ensure we are providing our clients with the best. Communication is also key to help a smooth process of both specification and installation.

Can you remember your first design project?

LB: My first design project with Gravity Design was a complete refurbishment of a Grade II listed family home overlooking Regents Park.  It was a great project to start on, it gave hands on experience in an elegant space.  The design process was detailed and complex as we were looking to update dramatically but within the constraints of the Grade II listing.

What is your design signature/style?

LB: I don’t like to think I have a design style, I think you have to approach every project with both the client requirements in mind and taking inspiration from the property/ location itself.  Personally, I love mid-century design.

What type of people do you love to work with as clients?

LB: People who are excited with the whole process and put their trust in you when they might not be able to envisage it quite as clearly.

Can you tell us about a particularly exciting/challenging project?

LB: Nearly all the projects are exciting and challenging in their own way.  One great project was converting an artist studio in Knightsbridge into a family home but retaining a sense of the original light in the space that would have inspired the artist.

Does your home reflect your professional style?

LB: It’s getting there; I like to collect things slowly so that I know I’m getting something I will love forever.

If someone reading this was about to begin their own home redesign project, what would be your best advice to them?

LB: Take your time, prepare a plan and stick to it.  It’s easy to get distracted by discovering exciting trends during the process but introducing these can become disjointed if not considered in the first place.
